Kidderminster 0 Darlington 1
Main 77 mins, 0-1
Attendance 2011 (58 from Darlo)
Darlington produced a magnificent display to defeat the league leaders at Aggborough.
After losing at Leamington last Saturday, Quakers were clearly determined to bounce back, and they produced a hard working and energetic display, which was capped by a Cedric Main winner., which puts Quakers back ino the play off places.
Every single player worked very hard throughout the game, and thoroughly deserved the three points.
Quakers nearly broke through in the 3rd minute, Will Hatfield picked the ball up in midfield, ran at the defence, but his pass for Cedric Main was cut out.
Kidderminster replied with a good run by Ashley Hemmings to the edge of the Darlington area, but he was stopped by Tom Platt.
Quakers had their first attempt from a quick break on 12 minutes when Main made a good run and found Hatfield on the outside, but the midfielder’s shot from just inside the box was blocked.
Quakers won the first corner off a Ben Hedley cross on 18 minutes, but Kelly’s cross when his corner was returned to him, went over Elliot Forbes’ head at the far post.
So far, Quakers were managing to stifle the league leaders through sheer hard work.
They had a better chance on 28 minutes. Will Flint found Kelly on the left, he played a good ball into the box which was half cleared as far as Hatfield, who hit a first time shot that went just over the bar.
Kiddie won their first corner on 30 minutes on the right, and the ball was curled in by Hemmings across the six yard box without anyone getting a touch.
A 1-2 between Rivers and Hatfield ended with Hatfield winning a corner. Kelly played the ball to the edge of the box for the waiting Hatfield, but Kiddie were alert and blocked his shot.
Jameson was called into serious action for the first time on 34 minutes when he blocked a shot from Caleb Richards.
Quakers had a good chance on the break on 41 minutes when Main got away from his marker, raced into the box, but a covering defender blocked his shot for a corner.
Half time 0-0
They nearly scored at the start of the second half. A careful move down the right saw Kelly find Ben Hedley on the overlap, and his floated cross went over to the back post where Flint volleyed towards goal, but Christian Dibble managed to block.
They had another chance when Scott Barrow’s left wing cross come out to Tom Platt, who set up Flint to turn and shoot straight at Dibble.
They missed a great chance on 53 minutes when Rivers dribbled his way into the box on the left and crossed to the far post where Kelly put the ball over the top.
But Kidderminster replied with a free kick just outside the box on the right which Hemmings again whipped across the six yard box, but nobody could get a touch.
However, Quakers were soon pressurising the Kidderminster defence again, and Main couldn’t get quite a firm connection on to a Barrow cross from the left when he was six yards out.
Quakers deservedly took the lead on 77 minutes. Hatfield played a great ball through to Main, who raced away from the defence, wrongfooted the keeper and two defenders before slotting the ball home, his seventh goal of the season. It was only the sixth goal that Kiddie have conceded at home this season.
Kidderminster won a free kick on the edge of the area, but Quakers built their wall properly and blocked Thompson’s free kick.
Quakers went up the other end again, and Kelly couldn’t quite get his header on target from another teasing cross by Rivers.
Kiddie piled on the pressure in the closing minutes, and Jameson pulled off a point blank save. The home keeper went up for the corner to put pressure on Jameson, but the resolute and determined visiting defence got the ball away.
The visiting supporters were in raptures on the final whistle, and no wonder after such a magnificent display
