Quakers beaten at Kings Lynn

Eight game unbeaten run ends

Kings Lynn 3 Darlington 0

Goals: Barrett (5 mins, 1-0), Ponticelli (35 mins, 2-0), Barrett (51 mins, 3-0)

Attendance 1454

Quakers were punished for their mistakes in the top of the table clash at the Walks.

Kings Lynn scored in the first five minutes, and added another before half time to put the home side in a strong position. Both goals were down to Quakers giving the ball away in midfield and giving the Linnets the opportunity to counter attack.

Two subs before half time and a change in formation didn't prevent a third just after half time.

Quakers had their chances but Kings Lynn keeper Paul Jones pulled off two good saves, while the woodwork also denied Kaine Felix.

Nevertheless, Quakers are still in second place in the table, three points behind the Linnets, and one ahead of third placed Scarborough.

Dan Dodds and Jake Lawlor both made good interceptions in the opening minutes, then Lynn’s Theo Widdrington was booked for a late challenge on Adriano Moke.

Lynn took the lead after 5 minutes. Quakers lost the ball in midfield, and it was played out to the left for Josh Barrett to control, and he curled a right footer over Tommy Taylor into the net.

Quakers tried to reply, and a good run by Dan Dodds was stopped on the edge of the Kings Lynn penalty area. Jassem Sukar then made a good headed interception after Lynn had got behind the Darlington defence.

Ben Hedley picked the ball up on the left on 17 minutes and crossed for Mark Beck to help the ball on for Kaine Felix, but his right wing cross was headed away.

Quakers gained their first corner on 22 minutes which was curled over to the far post by Hedley, and the ball just missed the far post.

They got another on the opposite side on 27 minutes , and the ball came out to Moke, who struck a rising right foot shot that Paul Jones tipped over the bar.

Lynn had their second player booked on 29 minutes, Crowther for tripping Hazell. Rose’s free kick was headed out for a corner, which was held by Jones.

The home side were denied by Taylor on 34 minutes when Ponticelli got through on the left and Taylor smothered his effort at the near post.

But there was no denying Kings Lynn on 35 minutes when they caught Quakers with a quick break after they lost the ball in midfield and Barrett squared the ball for Ponticelli to tap in with the Darlington defence appealing for offside.

Quakers made two subs on 42 minutes. Jack Lambert for Danny Rose, and Joe Leesley for Jacob Hazel.

Quakers nearly pulled one back just on half time. Sukar found Felix, who was now on the left, with a good ball through, and Felix’s cross bounced off the top of the bar.

It was 3-0 on 51 minutes, the Darlington defence was split by a through ball and Barrett cheekily lobbed the ball over the stranded Taylor.

Quakers tried to get back into the game. Leesley found Lambert on the left, and his cross was just too high for Hedley at the far post.

Quakers nearly pulled one back when Felix won possession on the right, ran into the box and found Lambert, whose right foot shot was well saved by Jones.

And they had another chance on 75 minutes when Moke played the ball into the box for Felix to lay back to him, but he fired over the top.

Taylor then prevented a fourth when Clunan broke down the right amd set up Omatoyo, and the keeper blocked his point blank shot.

Ben Liddle came on as Quakers' third sub for Moke on 84 minutes.

Quakers kept going, and Lambert won a corner late in the game, but Beck’s header from the corner was blocked.

In the last minute, Felix got through on the end of a Beck flick on but his effort landed on the roof of the net.
