Quakers looking to bounce back
King's Lynn 1 Darlington 1
Main 24 mins, 0-1, Gyasi 50 mins, 1-1
Quakers held on for a valuable and well-deserved point after playing for more than half the game with ten men.
Cedric Main put Quakers into the lead with an opportunist goal, but a few minutes later Scott Barrow was shown a straight red for pulling back Michael Gyasi.
But despite being a man down, Quakers battled away and defended well at the back, and nearly pinched the three points themselves
King’s Lynn had the first chance on 3 minutes, when Michael Gyasi controlled the ball on the edge of the Darlington area, turned, and struck a left foot shot a few yards wide.
Then two minutes later, a move right to left found Bailey Clements, whose left foot shot was parried by Jameson
But Quakers nearly scored on 10 minutes. Jameson’s long clearance caused confusion in the Lynn defence when Cedric Main put pressure on, and the ball fell for McGowan who set Main up to have a shot pushed away for a corner by Chadwick.
Quakers won a free kick 30 yards out on 14 minutes for a foul on Tom Allan, but Hatfield’s free kick was blocked by the wall.
Jameson pulled off a good save after 16 minutes from Gold Omotayo, just managing to stop his header from a right wing cross from going in.
But Quakers went up the other end and scored on 24 minutes. Jameson rolled the ball out to Josh Scott, who hit a long ball forward or Main to chase, and he beat the last man to the ball and lobbed it over the keeper.
But a minute later, Quakers were down to ten when Barrow was adjudged to have brought down Gyasi and was shown red, although Scott wasn’t too far away from the incident.
Despite being down to ten -- Elliot Forbes moved to the middle of defence -- Quakers nearly got a second when McGowan got away on the left and pulled the ball inside for Allan to have a left foot shot deflected wide. McGowan and Allan worked the corner well, and McGowan’s attempt was blocked.
Linnets piled on the pressure towards half time, and Hatfield blocked a close range effort by Wilson, while Jameson’s handling of crosses was very assured.
Half time 0-1
But Lynn equalised five minutes into the second half. They made progress up the right hand side, and the ball was pulled back for Gyasi to score from six yards.
Quakers nearly regained the lead on 55 minutes. Hedley found Main just outside the area, and the striker turned quickly and hit a right foot shot that skimmed the bar.
However, Nyahwema swopped wings to the left, and he worked his way to the edge of the box before firing wide.
Lynn had another chance when Ross Crane crossed for Wilson to head into Jameson’s hands.
But Quakers nearly scored at the other end when Main found Maskell on the right, and his low cross was turned over his own bar by a defender.
Quakers made their first sub on 66 minutes, Tom Platt coming on for Allan.
However, Quakers replied, and had a half chance at the other end when McGowan’s free kick was cleared as far as Hedley, who put a dipping right foot shot over the bar.
Quakers made their second sub on 80 minutes, Stanton coming on for McGowan, while former Darlington player Jack Lambert came on for King’s Lynn.
Then two minutes later, Aidan Rutledge came on for Maskell as Quakers held on.
In stoppage time, Quakers got a free kick 25 yards out that Hatfield struck powerfully towards goal, and the keeper saved at the second attempt.
At the other end, Platt put a great tackle in on his six yard box
