We build up to Sunday's FA Buildbase Trophy game against Marine by looking back to last season.

The last time we played Marine was 30th January this year in the EvoStik League Premier Division. Here’s the match report.

Marine 0 Darlington 1

Quakers won their third successive away game thanks to a first half winner by skipper Kevin Burgess.

It was also Quakers eighth away win of the season to keep them firmly in the promotion race.

With the strong wind at their backs, Quakers had a goal disallowed in the second minute, but the flag went up for offside against Nathan Cartman.

They had another opportunity after 12 minutes when Lee Gaskell got on the end of a Terry Galbraith cross, but the Marine keeper Matthew Cooper managed to block.

Gaskell had another chance a few minutes later when he broke through one on one, but again the keeper denied him. Stephen Thompson then went close with a shot on the turn, and then struck the post from 20 yards with the keeper stranded.

Quakers took a deserved lead on 35 minutes. Defender Gary Brown broke up a Marine attack, and he sent Adam Mitchell and Thompson away to combine well. Thompson had a shot blocked, and Burgess followed up to score his third goal in the last two games.

Quakers were forced on the defensive in the second half, and changed their formation against the wind to make it more difficult for their opponents.

However, they nearly got a second on 76 minutes when a Thompson free kick from 25 yards hit the top of the crossbar, and right at the end, sub David Dowson was denied.
