Long standing supporter passes away
The club is sad to learn about the passing of Lawrence “Lol” Sowerby.
Lawrence, who was 92, followed Darlington FC all his life. He watched most of his football at Feethams stood on the terraces either side of the Old East Stand.
Along with his father-in-law and two sons (Chris and David), three generations watched football in the 70's together, witnessing great games such as Sheffield Wednesday, Orient and Fulham etc. In the 50's he was present when DFC defeated Chelsea in the FA Cup after drawing at Stamford Bridge and made the journey to Wolverhampton for the next round in the back of a truck driven by his father-In-law. He experienced all the ups and downs of the club, and stayed loyally by it.
He was not able to visit Blackwell Meadows due to health issues but stayed up to date with the news via the excellent media content on YouTube, and always bought the Northern Echo on Saturdays and Mondays for the football content.
Everyone at Darlington FC would like to pass on our sincere condolences to Chris, David, the rest of the family and his friends.
