Darlington striker Lee Gaskell revealed that manager Martin Gray had a quiet word with him before Saturday’s away win at Hyde United.

Lee scored his second hat trick since joining Quakers when he destroyed Hyde on Saturday, to give him eight goals in eight league games for the club, his other hat trick coming against Mickleover Sports two months ago.

“The gaffer pulled me to one side, and said that my performances in my last two games hadn’t been what he expected - -and that got me knuckling down even more!

“It goes to show that when you put the effort in and you’re on your game, then the goals will come.

“I’ve always said ever since I came to the club that if I get the service, then I’ll score goals.”

Lee and the rest of his team mates were pretty sharp on Saturday, and he said; “We’ve all managed to keep our fitness levels during the lay off. Training isn’t the same as playing, but we’ve all done well.”
