Superb Quakers score three times in first 33 minutes to set up victory at Marine

Second away win of the season

Marine 1 Darlington 4

Allan 3 mins, 0-1, Maskell 14 mins, 0-2, 33 mins, 0-3, Sinclair-Smith 48 mins, 1-3, McGowan 58 mins 1-4

Quakers won their second game of the season in style after blowing Marine away in the first half.

The home side had no answer to the vsitors' pace and movement, as they constantly sliced through the defence to create several chances, of which they took three in the first 33 minutes.

Quakers. who lost Will Hatfield before kick off and was repalced by Tom Platt, took the lead in the third minute. Josh Scott found Jack Maskell on the overlap on the left, and Maskell pulled the ball back perfectly for Tom Allan to turn in at the far post, his first goal for the club.

Quakers nearly got another, when Scott Barrow sent Josh Scott up the left, and he crossed into the six yard box where Maskell couldn’t quite turn the ball past Matteo Spinelli.

Again Quakers exposed Marine down the left on 11 minutes, and Main made ground into the box before powerfully firing just over the top.

It was deservedly 2-0 on 14 minutes. Main again had joy on the left, he played the ball into the box for Ellis Stanton, who was challenged by a defender, and the ball ran for Maskell to slot home.

Marine forced a couple of corners , but nothing came of them.

The visitors threatened down the opposite wing on 24 minutes when Tye Barton won the ball and found Ellis Shenton. He played the ball on for Maskell, who took a touch and brought a flying save out of Spinelli.

Scott Barrow had to clear for a corner under his own crossbar, then Jameson made a good save from a header at the foot of his post as Marine tried to get back into the game.

But Quakers broke again and nearly got a third when McGowan got to the bye line and pulled the ball back for Main to have an effort blocked on the line.

The score was deservedly 3-0 on 33 minutes, and Quakers again caught their hosts on the left side. This time Scott floated a perfect long ball over the top of the Marine defence for Maskell to latch on to, and he kept his cool to round the keeper and tap in.

Marine decided to make a sub on 39 minutes with Chris Doyle being replaced by Bailey Marsden.

McGowan got away from the defence again on 44 minutes, and Spinelli produced an excellent save to deny him

Half time

Marine 0 Darlington 3

Marine pulled a goal back three minutes into the second half when Ash Hunter burst through the middle and set up Fin Sinclair-Smith to fire across Pete Jameson into the net.

They nearly scored a second when Sinclair-Smith crossed from the left, and Lewis Bell saw a header blocked on the line by Barrow.

Quakers responded with a break by Maskell, and he forced a flying save out of Spinelli,  then a free kick from the left by McGowan almost fell to Maskell, whose effort was blocked.

But Quakers restored their three goal lead and their control of the game on 58 minutes. Maskell did well to keep the ball in on the right, and that allowed Stanton to run forward and place a great ball into the path of McGowan, who fired into the bottom right corner for his first goal of the season.

The stuffing seemed to be knocked out of Marine, and they appealed for a penalty for a shirt tug following a corner on 73 minutes but the referee waved play on.

Quakers made their first sub on 77 minutes, Ben Hedley coming on for Allan.

Marine kept going though, and Jameson had to make a good one handed save from Sinclair-Smith.

Quakers broke up the other end and nearly got a fifth when McGowan put Main through, but Spinelli saved at his feet.

Jameson made a late save from Warburton as Marine threw men forward, but Quakers remained well in control until the end.
