We kicked off the 2017/18 season with a very impressive display at Salford City. A goal in each half from David Ferguson gave us a 2-0 win away to the title favourites.

Local rivals Spennymoor Town started off with an 1-0 win over Stockport County following promotion last season.  The Brewers scored the only goal of the game just before half time though David Foley. However, they had to thank Dan Lowson in goal, as he saved a Matty Warburton penalty in the final 20 minutes to secure the win.

Fellow North East side Blyth Spartans did not fair so well on their return to the second tier of non-league football, as they fell to a 2-0 defeat at Alfreton. In a game that ended with only two officials on the pitch, goals from Luke Shiels and Andre Johnson sealed the points.

Relegated York City will be expecting to challenge for the title this year, but they started with a defeat at home to AFC Telford United. Matthew Barnes-Homer scored the only goal of the game just before half time to earn the Bucks a 1-0 win.

Kidderminster Harriers hosted Chorley in a rematch from last seasons playoffs and once again it was the Magpies who came out on top.  An own goal by Tyrone Williams 12 minutes from time separated the sides.

Three clubs are joint top after they all recorded 4-0 home victories. Curzon Ashton were one of those, as they thrashed North Ferriby United on the away sides return to the division after one year in the National Premier. Max Leonard scored twice in the first ten minutes for Curzon with Niall Cummins and Matty Crothers added further goals in the second half.

After relegation Southport started their bid to bounce straight back in the perfect way with a 4-0 victory at home to Boston United.  Steven Schumacher scored before half time with Liam Martin, Curtis Jones and Gary Roberts adding goals in the second half.

Harrogate Town turned full-time over the summer and were the final side to win by four on the opening day. George Thomson gave them an early lead over Nuneaton Town. Jordan Thewlis scored twice in six minutes to seal the victory before Simon Ainge rounded victory off from the penalty spot.

Tamworth and Bradford Park Avenue’s opening day fixture appeared to be heading for a scoreless draw. However, Adam Boyes scored for Bradford in the seventh minute of stoppage time to earn all the points.

League new boys Leamington, won 2-1 away at our next opponents Gainsborough Trinity. The hosts took the lead through Ashley Worsfold, but a double either side of half time from Ahmed Obeng gave Leamington the victory.

In the final game on Saturday, Brackley overcome FC United of Manchester 2-1. Jimmy Armson gave Brackley the lead, before Jason Gilchrist levelled for the visitors. However, just three minutes later Andy Brown put Brackley back in front and they were able to hold on for the win.
