Nominate a Darlington FC player from the 60s for the Hall of Fame!
By Ray Simpson
The decade of a promotion, a near miss, and some good cup runs
On 26th March, the DAFTS (‘Darlington Away Far Travelling Supporters’) launched the start of a project to create a Darlington Football Club Hall of Fame.
This will be a physical and virtual display commemorating former players and officials of Darlington Football Club who deserve such recognition for their outstanding contributions to the fortunes of the Club.
Initially, this will be a five-year project carried out in discrete phases with the intention of populating the Hall of Fame with inductees from the Club’s formation in 1883, right through to current times.
The ‘Hall of Fame’ project is sponsored by DAFTS with support from DFCSG.
The first phase of Hall of Fame will be specifically looking for potential inductees that were associated with the Club from season 1960-61 through to season 1969-70 – hence the call for help from those aged 65 or older!
So, if you have memories of the 1960s, we need you to step forward and nominate your Darlo heroes from that era by completing a simple online form. The closing date for nominations isn’t until Monday 25th April, so you have plenty of time to ponder and discuss your past heroes with your cohorts.
Plus, if you have the Farewell to Feethams book, there are plenty of memories from fans, players and officials from that time to help you make your choice.
We held a reunion in February 2003 of the 1966 promotion winning squad -- and everyone had a great afternoon meeting some of those famous names again.
