Paddy Almond -- further update Sunday evening

Sunday morning latest on Paddy's condition

Sunday evening 5.30 update

Following his second brain scan this morning, the specialists made a decision to keep Paddy under observation before they make a decision on whether to operate.

Happily, his condition hasn't deteriorated, and appears to be stabilising. He is sat up in his bed, eating food and chatting with his family.

Paddy and his family are very grateful for all the messages of goodwill from throughout the world of football, and as a club we have been most touched by all the support for him. The football world has truly come together, rivalries have been set aside.

Our physio Danny O'Connor -- one of several people to whom everybody is grateful -- is now back home in the north east and keeping in touch with Paddy and his family.

We will keep everybody updated.

Sunday morning 10.30 update

On his arrival at the Royal London Hospital at around midnight Saturday, Paddy had a second brain scan, and is due to have an operation to relieve the pressure on his brain some time this morning.

Everybody at Darlington FC and the world of football is keeping him in our thoughts and hoping that he makes a swift recovery. He was able to hold conversations with our physio, Danny O'Connor last night, which hopefully is a good sign.

We would like to thank Danny who did so much to help Paddy on the field, in the changing room, and in the two hospitals. We wish him a safe journey back up from London. We understand that Paddy's parents are on their way to London to be with Paddy.

We would also like to thank John, Dave, and all of the medical staff at Southend FC, the NHS ambulance staff, and the doctors at Southend General Hospital and Royal London Hospital. Their help is greatly appreciated.

We would also like to thank everyone in the football world for all their messages of goodwill, it has been very heartwarming to read so many good wishes. We are sure that you will be keeping your fingers crossed for Paddy as well.

We will keep everyone updated.
