Four Darlington players make charity bet.
Four youthful Darlington players are pictured making a charity bet at the beginning of the 1992-93 season (writes Craig Stoddart)
The photograph was taken at Ladbrokes in Skinnergate, Darlington, and features, from left to right, Anthony Isaacs, Mark Sunley, Simon Shaw and Adrian Swann.
Isaacs, Sunley and Shaw had all been on the fringes of the first team in the previous season and in 92-93 Isaacs and Shaw would go on to make further inroads into first-team football, but Sunley played only twice and goalkeeper Swann could not dislodge Mark Prudhoe.
Eagle-eyed readers may be able to spot that Sunley’s bet was for Darlington to be Division Three champions, a wager that did not see a reward - Quakers finished 15th in their first campaign under the stewardship of Billy McEwan
