In action against Torquay
Gary Gill rises to the challenge during Darlington’s 3-0 home win over Torquay United on December 15, 1990 (wrtes Craig Stoddart).
The match marked the return of highly-rated defender Jimmy Willis to the side for his first league match since suffering a broken leg towards the end of the previous season at Telford United. His return saw Gill move to the No. 7 shirt with Willis reclaiming the No. 4 jersey he had worn with distinction until injury struck.
Willis missed only one match during the remainder of the Division Four title-winning campaign, while Gill was also a regular.
The win over Torquay was Quakers’ first at Feethams in four attempts and was secured with goals by John Borthwick, Andy Toman and Drew Coverdale.
