Pic from the Past -- Super Mario Dorner
By Ray Simpson
Austrian striker became a crowd favourite
Austrian striker Mario Dorner was with Darlington for two seasons in the late-1990s, and a regular scorer during his time with the club (writes Craig Stoddart)
He joined from Motherwell alongside fellow countryman Franz Resch in October 1997, finishing his first campaign by contributing 11 goals as Darlington finished the season 19th under David Hodgson.
The following campaign was less fruitful, scoring only four times, though one of them came in the memorable FA Cup win over Burnley when Quakers recovered from being two goals behind by scoring three goals in the last ten minutes.
He is pictured playing against Exeter City at Feethams on January 24, 1998, a game in which he scored once and Darlington won 3-2.
