Pitch Update: Final phase underway at Blackwell Meadows

First game on July 15th

The countdown is on to our first home game of pre-season.

The latest round of work at Blackwell Meadows is focused on maximising grass growth and preparing the surface for match action.

At the end of last week, a granular fertiliser was applied to stimulate further grass growth across the pitch. That was followed by hand disc seeding in selected areas to enhance coverage and support a consistent playing surface.

Since then, regular irrigation has continued, backed up by some timely rainfall. The pitch was cut again midweek as we gradually reduce the grass height towards match levels.

To maintain momentum, a liquid fertiliser was applied on Friday. This will aid further growth and strengthen root structure at a key stage of the process.

Off the pitch, our new water tank is now installed and operational. A final pipework check is due shortly before the trench is backfilled which will mark the completion of the new system.

As always, this work is delivered in partnership with Darlington Rugby Club. Our joint annual budget supports year-round maintenance of the surface, with all renovation and upkeep managed by groundsman Nathan Waddup and head of grounds Lee Dodsworth.

We are building towards our opening home fixture — Tuesday 15 July, 7.30pm kick-off against Sunderland U21s.

We’re getting closer to the new season!
