Karl Alexander has very kindly given us access to his extensive collection, and in this part of the series we lookback at the 1956-57 season.
We'd finished 15th in Division Three North the season before, and were looking for improvement.
Our first game of the season was at Scunthorpe on 18th August 1956, and we won 2-1 , both goals scored by Bill Tulip.
After losing 1-0 at home to Carlisle on 22nd August, we beat Crewe Alexandra on 25th August by 3-0.
We drew 1-1 at Derby County on 1st September
We had a good 2-1 away win at Gateshead on 15th September
and then we drew 1-1 with Barrow on 19th September
