Quakers beaten by first half goal at Buxton
By Ray Simpson

Second away defeat of the season
Buxton 1 Darlington 0
Sodje 35 mins, 1-0
Attendance 602
Quakers suffered only their second away defeat of the season and their first in seven games when they were beaten at Buxton.
They never really reached the same standard as the Fylde cup games on a blustery and rainy day, and didn’t create many chances, which means they still haven’t beaten Buxton away from home.It was also the first time that Quakers haven’t scored this season.
Quakers, who were kicking against the breeze -- the wind wasn't as strong as forecast at pitch level -- conceded an early corner through Toby Lees off a right wing cross, but Tom Platt headed the inswinging corner away.
Luke Hall then made a good run up the left, and Scott Barrow put his low cross out for a corner, which was swung towards the six yard box for Max Bardell to head just wide of the right hand post.
Tai Sodje then hit the post as Quakers looked rattled at the back.
Deniche Hill then made a run forward from left back and fired over the top.
Quakers, though, slowly gained their composure and threatened on 12 minutes when Tye Barton’s cross was fumbled by Buxton keeper Paul Cooper to the feet of Elliot Forbes, who took a touch and fired against the crossbar before Buxton got the ball away
Quakers had another chance on 21 minutes when Charlie Lennon beat two defenders on the right and laid the ball off for McGowan, whose left foot shot was heading for the bottom corner until the ball took an unfortunate deflection off Jack Maskell and went out for a goal kick.
The game was fairly even after that, until the home side took the lead on 35 minutes. Quakers lost the ball in midfield, and Taj Sodje was played through and beat Jameson with a low shot into the bottom right corner.
Lennon showed some more trickery on the right and turned his marker inside out before putting a delicate cross towards the far post which nobody could get on the end of.
Then from a Barrow free kick, Main played the ball for McGowan who chipped the ball towards the far post, where a defender just managed to clear from Toby Lees.
Half time: Buxton 1 Darlington 0
Quakers restarted the second half with a long throw by Barrow which was flicked on by Platt, but nobody could get a touch behind him.
Quakers nearly conceded a second when they lost the ball on the halfway line, Connor Kirby chipped the ball towards the far post, and Toby Lees nearly sliced the ball into his own goal.
Then Bardell got away down the right and floated the ball to the far post, where Luke Brennan sidefooted wide.
Quakers made two subs on the hour, Kallum Griffiths and Ellis Stanton coming on for Tye Barton and Will Hatfield.
Forbes won a corner with a deflected shot on 63 minutes , but Cooper punched Lennon’s inswinger away, and Griffiths’ follow up shot went wide.
Quakers made another sub on 69 minutes, Aidan Rutledge coming on for Maskell, then Tom Allan came on for Lennon
Rutledge was involved in a chance on 74 minutes when he headed the ball down for Main to curl over the top from the edge of the box.
Matty Cornish came on on 83 minutes for Quakers’ last sub, with Tom Platt coming off.
Quakers pushed forward, and Rutledge couldn’t quite get on the end of McGowan’s ball into the box.
They threw everyone forward late in the game, but nothing dropped for them in the Buxton box
