Quaker Women beaten at Chester-le-Street
By Ray Simpson
First league defeat of the season
Chester-le-Street Women 7 Darlington Women 2
Darlington Women lost their first game of the season in the Durham County FA Women's League when they lost at Chester-le-Street on Sunday.
Quakers were in with a chance of a point at one stage, but they had a bad five minutes in which Chester scored three times.
They started the better side and went 1-0 up with a brilliant team goal all the way from Evie Whitaker in goal and then cooly finished off by Chloe Ryan to open the scoring. A couple of lapses in concentration and CLS went in 2-1 up at half time. Although Darlington were still in the game they were unlucky to be behind at the break.
One change at half time and substitute Lucy Charlton was straight into action, making good runs up top and her movement resulted in Chloe Ryan ending up with the ball on the left hand side and putting in a great finish from a tight angle to get the equaliser. The game was even until the hour mark with both teams having chances. CLS then took the lead and added a fourth a few minutes later. The game was far from over and initially Darlington reacted well.
Lucy Charlton caused problems again and some good feet in the box saw her taken out and the ref pointed to the spot. Chloe Ryan stepped up to take the penalty for her hat-trick and unfortunately put the ball over the bar. We had another great chance a couple of minutes later to get back in the game with Lucy Charlton just striking wide of the post. Then with 15 minutes to play, a mad five minute spell saw Darlington throw the game away and they conceded three quick goals in succession with a number of errors across the pitch. On another day, the scoreline could have been different but Chester Le Street were clinical and took their chances.
No game for the Quaker Women next Sunday, they will look to pick themselves up and be back in action on Sunday 22nd October at home to Horden CW Women.
Thanks to Chester Le Street Development for the game and see you back at our place later in the season.
