Quaker Women come from behind to win at Horden

Four goals in the second half

Horden 2 Darlington Women 4

An outstanding second half performance from the Quaker Women saw them come from 2-0 down at half time to bring home the three points at Horden

It was a scrappy first half with both teams creating chances. Horden capitalised on a defensive miscommunication and finished well to take the lead inside the first ten minutes. They had another just after the half hour mark, with a great strike from distance. Horden went into half time 2-0 up with a deserved lead and Darlington had some work to do.

The introduction of Lacey Baldwin and Nicole Graham sparked a reaction from the Quaker Women. As soon as the second half started, Darlington were up for it, first to many of the second balls and started to relax and keep the ball on the deck. The chances kept on coming and 8 minutes into the second half, a great ball forward from Leanne Mulligan was flicked on with a backheel from Sara Waites into the path of Lily Wilkinson, who still had a lot to do. Lily drove forward and with a lot of time, calmly put the ball into the top corner for her 2nd goal for the senior side.

Just seven minutes later on the hour mark, Darlington were level with a great team goal scored by Hattie Raine for her 11th league goal and 16th goal of the season. Some great link up play down the right hand side, resulted in Graham cutting the ball back inside for Hattie to smash the ball in off the far post into the net with a great finish. Darlington continued to press for the next goal and it came in the 75th minute with some more excellent build up play and an overlapping run from Chloe Bright who delivered the ball into the box from the byline, where Nicole Graham had time to take a touch and tap home from a few yards out for her 10th goal in all competitions. It only took a couple of minutes for Darlington to add a 4th with a great delivery from a Raine corner which Sara Waites got on the end of to seal the 3 points.

There were a few standout performances today, with Millie Soderman putting in a solid performance on her full debut, Nicole Graham making an impact of the bench, Hattie Raine on the scoresheet again but player of the match went to Lacey Baldwin who came on 30 minutes or so into the game and added some calmness to the midfield and helped the team keep their shape very well.

Thank you for your support this afternoon  and thanks to Horden CW for the game. Good luck for the rest of the season.
