Quakers sign striker Dan Maguire

"Nippa" is reunited with his old boss

Darlington FC have today signed striker Dan Maguire following his release from York City.

Dan, who is 27, started his career at Seaton Delaval in the Northern Alliance, and joined Blyth at the start of the 2012/13 season. He went on to score 159 goals for them in 310 appearances, including 37 goals in 54 appearances when Blyth won promotion from the EvoStik Premier League in season 2016-17. During the same season he was capped by England C, and was also voted the NPL Player of the Year.

When current Darlington boss Alun Armstrong was in charge of Blyth in season 2018-19, “Nipa” scored 19 goals to help them into the National League play offs. He joined full time club York City in the summer of 2019, and made 14 appearances, scoring twice, before he was released after they were beaten in the play offs.

“Hopefully, Dan is the missing piece in our jigsaw,” said Alun.

“We’ve been missing somebody like Nippa who scores goals on a regular basis, and he wants to get back to what he knows best. He’s a phenomenal goalscorer, who can score them out of nothing especially on the counter attack. He’s set up for the system that we play.

“He’s strong, physical and sets the other players up really well. He will give us lots of massive options with the other players. I’m really looking forward to working with him again.”

Dan, who played in York’s play off semi final against Altrincham recently, said; "I want to play some games, get some goals, and play some attacking football."

Dan knows seven of the other Darlington players, having played with them at Blyth.

We would like to welcome Dan to the club, and wish him every success with us.
