Quakers take option on Joe Wheatley's contract

Midfielder stays for another year

Darlington FC have today exercised the option on Joe Wheatley’s contract for another season.

The midfielder is Quakers’ longest serving player, having made his debut for us in the 1-1 draw at North Ferriby in August 2017. Since then, he has made 119 appearances for us, scoring three times – one of which, of course, was that memorable equaliser at Walsall in the first round of the FA Cup in 2019.

Manager Alun Armstrong said; “Joe has proved in his performances that he is very much a key player for us, and we’re delighted to be keeping him.”

Alun has also revealed that he has released two more players; central defender Nicky Hunt and keeper Jonny Saltmer. We would like to thank them both for their service and wish them well for the future.
