Quakers held their nerve in the penalty shootout to beat Newton Aycliffe 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in 90 minutes last night.
Quakers' Alex Purver missed the third penalty of the shootout, but Aycliffe hit the bar with the sixth and missed the target with the tenth to the visitors into the next round, which will be played before 18th December.
Aycliffe started the better of the two sides, and after Darlington keeper Lucas Martin made two good saves, they took the lead when Joe Ferguson burst into the box and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
But Junior Mondal fired Quakers level from an Omar Sangyang cross, and before half time Aycliffe keeper Adam Pickford pulled off two good stops from Mondal and Andrew Nelson.
In the second half, Quakers were on top and took a deserved lead when Jack Lambert's left wing corner went straight in, but with ten minutes left Aycliffe sub Liam Jarvie scored the goal of the night with 20 yarder into the top corner.
Quakers nearly won it, but Nelson had a low shot cleared off the line by former Darlington player Lewis Walton in the last minute.
Stephen Elliott was in charge of the side, and spoke to the official website afterwards.
