The club is very sad to learn of the death of our former player Ron Harbertson, at the age of 95.

Ron played a major part in one of our greatest FA Cup runs in season 1957-58 when he scored in every FA Cup tie between the first and fourth rounds, including one in the famous 4-1 win over First Division Chelsea in the fourth round. Straight after the game, he went to work nightshift as a miner – these were the days when footballers would also have jobs away from the game.

Ron joined us from Newcastle in January 1957, and played 55 games, scoring 28 times, before he moved on to Lincoln City. He returned in January 1961, and played another 14 games for us, scoring twice.
