Quakers last away league game of the season
Scarborough 1 Darlington 0
Weledji 77 mins, 1-0
Darlington’s away programme came to an end with a defeat at Scarborough Athletic.
They looked the more likely to score with some good football in the first half – Will McGowan hit the bar -- but Scarborough improved in the second half, and after Hazeem Bakre was dismissed for an off the ball incident, the home side took the lead.
Scarborough almost broke into the Darlington area in the opening minute, but Sam Hetherington just got his foot to the ball.
Matty Cornish found space on the right and crossed into the middle where the Scarborough defence had an anxious moment before they cleared.
Quakers nearly scored on 6 minutes. Scott Barrow crossed deep from the left to the far post where Will McGowan nodded the ball down for Cedric Main to sweep just wide.
Scarborough had a chance on 9 minutes when Sam Reed cut in from the right and curled a left foot shot just over the bar.
Barrow then played another good diagonal ball over the Scarborough defence for Cornish to latch on to and run into the area, but his pull back was intercepted.
Barrow got another cross in from the left on 14 minutes, and this time Jack Maskell’s header from ten yards was saved by Ryan Whitley.
Scarborough won a corner on 24 minutes on the left, but it was headed away by the Darlington defence.
Quakers caused a scare on 28 minutes when Whitley came off his line to claim a Barrow free kick, but Toby Lees got his head to it first, but a defender managed to clear with the keeper stranded.
Quakers got a free kick for a foul about 20 yards out on 32 minutes , but even though Barrow got the ball through the wall, Whitley managed to save.
They got another in almost the same position two minutes later, and this time Will McGowan curled the ball over the wall, but it hit the crossbar with the keeper beaten.
Shea Connor’s first action was in stoppage time, when Harry Green cut in from the right and hit a right foot shot that was straight at the keeper.
Half time 0-0
Scarborough had more purpose in the second half, and Weledji crossed for Colville to head just over the bar.
But Quakers responded with a neat move through the middle, and Hetherington’s pass was just a shade too far for McGowan.
Scarborough went close on 55 minutes when Jack Waldron crossed for Richie Benett, whose header was well saved by Connor.
Quakers thought they should have had a penalty on 56 minutes when Main appeared to be brought down in the area, but the referee booked him for simulation instead
Quakers made three subs on the hour, with Hazeem Bakre, Will Hatfield and Kallum Griffiths coming on for Matty Cornish, Sam Hetherington and Blair Adams.
After Quakers made those subs, Bennett broke up the middle and fired towards goal, but Connor confidently held on.
Quakers had a chance on 63 minutes when Griffiths crossed from the right, the ball bounced in the area, and Maskell headed over.
Quakers were reduced to ten men when Bakre was involved in an incident with a defender, and was shown a straight red card.
And Scarborough took the lead on 77 minutes, when the ball was crossed from the left, and Weledji stole in and sidefooted past Connor.
Quakers got a free kick on the edge of the area after Main was fouled, but first Hatfield’s free kick was charged down, as was McGowan’s follow up.
Quakers made their fourth sub on 84 minutes when Cameron Salkeld replaced Jack Maskell.
