But Quakers nearly took the lead on 5 minutes. Lawlor successfully won the ball on the Darlington left and played a great ball over the Scunthorpe defence for Jacob Hazel to get in behind and hit a left foot shot thatScunthorpe keeper Ross Fitzsimons blocked with his legs.
Quakers had another chance on 7 minutes when Andrew Nelson picked the ball up 30 yards out, ran to the edge of the box and hit a right foot shot that Fitzsimons saved low down.
Darlington keeper Tommy Taylor made an excellent save on 17 minutes when Jacob Butterfield turned and hit a left foot shot towards the top corner, from just outside the area but Taylor acrobatically palmed the ball away.
But Quakers responded with a long ball to Nelson on the left, and he played the ball inside for Ben Liddle to control just inside the area, and fire left footed just over the top.
Quakers thought they’d scored on 24 minutes when Jordan Mustoe chipped the ball into the box for Hazel to volley home in off the post, but the assistant’s flag went up for offside.
But Scunthorpe took the lead on 27 minutes, when they broke up a Quakers counter attack, and Danny Whitehall hit a left foot shot that took a deflection, wrong footed Taylor and went into the net-- the second time in as many games that Quakers have conceded such a goal.
Quakers had a chance to get back into the game when Hazel set up Nelson who cut in from the right and put a left foot shot over the top.
It was 2-0 on 41 minutes. Windass was penalised for a foul 25 yards out, and Whitehall curled the ball over the wall and past Taylor into the net.
HT 2-0
Quakers started the second half with a pass by Hazel to Windass on the right, but he put his cross behind.
Scunthorpe had the chance of a third when Butterfield wriggled free on the edge of the area, but Taylor was firmly behind his shot.
Quakers made a change on 63 minutes, Adriano Moke coming on for Ben Liddle,
then two minutes later Cameron Salkeld replaced Windass
A third change was made when Curry replaced Hazel.
Quakers then nearly pulled a goal back when Mustoe played a low ball into the box, and Salkeld just failed to get a touch.
It was 3-0 though on 77 minutes when the ball was threaded through for Alfie Beestin to run into the box and beat Taylor.
Elliott broke away and hit the bar after that as Quakers kept battling away to no avail.
Right at the end, Dion Sembie-Ferris beat Taylor with another deflected shot
