Quakers started the game well with plenty of pace, and went close with a left foot shot by Scott Barrow from 25 yards that flew just past the right hand post.
Hazeem Bakre then made a great run up the middle, but he was stopped just on the edge of the Scunthorpe area.
But Quakers fell behind after 8 minutes. Alfie Beestin played the ball forward on the edge of the box, got a rebound off a defender, and beat Peter Jameson with a low right foot shot.
It was nearly 2-0 on 12 minutes when Callum Roberts broke up the left, got to the bye line and pulled the ball back for Beestin, who sidefooted against the left hand post,
Quakers nearly levelled though on 15 minutes when Toby Lees found Scott Barrow with a good diagonal ball and in turn he played the ball inside for Bakre, whose low shot was well saved by Fitzsimons.
Matty Cornish then made a good run into the box on the left, and his low cross was just cleared by a defender ahead of Cedric Main.
Bakre made another powerful run to the edge of the box where he laid the ball off to Cornish, whose return cross was just too far ahead of his forwards.
But it was 2-0 on 28 minutes. Beestin again received the ball about 25 yards out, beat a defender, and then struck a right foot shot past Jameson into the net for his second of the game.
Jameson prevented him from scoring a hat trick on 31 minutes when he got away from the Quakers’ defence in the area, but the keeper just managed to touch his effort around the post.
Quakers tried to get back into the game, but couldn't break into the Scunthorpe penalty area.
When Callum Roberts got into the Darlington area, he was stopped by two Darlington defenders.

Quakers had a chance at the start of the second half when a free kick was floated in from the left by Scott Barrow for Main to set up Will Flint, who fired over the top.
Main then nearly got through, but Fitzsimons came out of his goal area to stop him.
Quakers then had another chance when Cornish threaded the ball through for Main to control, but Fitzsimons blocked his shot.
Quakers then took off Flint and replaced him with Sam Hetherington, and Bakre was replaced by Caden Kelly.
Beestin was always a danger, and again he found space on the edge of the area to fire in a low right foot shot that Jameson saved.
Quakers made their third sub on 69 minutes, Andrew Nelson replacing Cornish, and then Jack Maskell came on for Will Hatfield, who was on a booking on 76 minutes.
Quakers had a half chance from a Caden Kelly corner, but Maskell couldn’t turn on the ball on the six yard line.
Charlie Stirland came on for his debut on 83 minutes, replacing Barrow.
They were nearly caught pushing forward three minutes from the end, but Roberts sidefooted straight at Jameson
