Sophie's hat trick clinches first win

First points of the season

Darlington Women 4 Durham United Women 2

A superb Sophie Curle hat trick was the highlight of Quakers’ first ever win in the Durham FA Women’s League at Eastbourne Sports Complex on Sunday.

The excellent crowd of 162 was thrilled by Curle’s performance, as she ran the Durham United defence ragged, particularly in the first half.

Quakers took the lead on 15 minutes when Hattie Raine found Curle in the box with a great ball into the box, and even though the keeper saved Curle’s header, the ball ran for Chloe Bright to tap in Quakers’ first ever competitive goal.

Curle made it 2-0 on 25 minutes when a defender handled the ball as she tried to get round her, and she smacked the penalty into the top corner.

And it was 3-0 just on half time when she cleverly dribbled past a defender on the left, cut into the box, and from a tight angle fired diagonally past the keeper.

She completed her hat trick early in the second half, heading powerfully in from a right wing corner.

With a four goal lead, manager Shaun MacKenzie made several changes, and Durham scored two goals inside three minutes to get back into the game.

But Quakers regained control, and could have added further goals in the last twenty minutes.
