Darlington players started their summer training schedule yesterday, and manager Martin Gray promises that there will be lots more to come.

MG is determined that the squad will be one of the best in the EvoStik Premier Division in terms of fitness, and he has arranged for them to have specialist fitness training over the next four weeks, before the pre-season schedule really begins.

“I want my squad of players to be one of the fittest, if not the fittest, squad in the division. We are facing a long hard season, in which we expect to do well.

“After the summer training, our pre-season begins in earnest – and I can promise the players that they won’t be having an easy time.”

In previous seasons, Darlington players have been on assault courses and cross country Army runs.

MG will be attending the launch of the club’s promotion programme and DVD on Saturday morning in the Dolphin Centre, starting at 10am.

“A fantastic amount of work has gone into those two projects, and hopefully they will sell well. It just goes to show how much pride our teams of volunteers have in the club to produce top quality stuff. There are some great interviews in the programme, and the highlights are superb – they bring back some very happy memories.”

Meanwhile, it looks as if Dick Advocaat will be accompanying his Sunderland team to Heritage Park for the friendly against Quakers on Thursday July 9th. The Dutchman was appointed boss of the Black Cats for the second time earlier this week.
