The Quaker U19's suffered their second defeat of the season yesterday against an impressive Notts County FC U19's in the National League Academy North Division.

Darlington FC U19 manager Stephen Elliott said; "Our lads never got going today against an impressive Notts County. Always disappointing to lose games but as I said after last weeks comprehensive win at Fylde, for young lads it’s all about learning and improving whether you win or lose. Our boys will be back at it again and hopefully we can continue to get better".

Team captain Jack Winstanley said; "We never really got going as a team in the game yesterday. Our distances were too big, which allowed Notts County too much space between the lines. We know ourselves we need to work a lot harder and our intensity has to be much higher, in order to get results in this league. A big reaction is now needed next week at Chesterfield".

Three changes were made from the side that beat AFC Fylde 7-1 last Wednesday. James Hopkinson replaced Liam Mason in goal, Charlie Mitchell replaced David Bradley on the wing and Sean Chidanyika returned to the side to replace the injured Dom Stacey.

Notts County setup in what looked to be a 3-5-1-1 formation, making good use of stretching the pitch and creating countless overloads on both flanks whilst also dominating the midfield battles.

Notts County took the lead in the 12th minute after good build up play on the left flank between their left sided centre back and left wing back Neo Saunders. Neo Saunders delivered a dangerous low driven cross into the Darlington box which was met well by one of the Notts County forwards to place the ball past James Hopkinson in the Darlington goal. 

Despite Notts County's dominance in the first half, the scoreline remained 1-0 with half time approaching. On the brink of half time, Darlington forward Raphael Oppong created a rare opening for himself, with his back to goal, he turned onto his strong left side and hit a low shot that looked like it was heading into the bottom corner but the Notts County keeper managed to just reach the shot and hold onto the ball.

The next goal in the game was crucial and two minutes into the second half Notts County doubled their lead and ten minutes later they added a third.

With minutes to go in the game, Notts County were awarded a penalty, which they converted to add a fourth goal of the game and round off a complete domination over Darlington. 

The Quaker U19's will be looking for a reaction when they take on Chesterfield FC away next week.
