Pre season training has started in earnest for Darlington this week, and manager Martin Gray says the sessions have been very positive.

Virtually all of the Darlington squad attended the first session on Tuesday night, and MG said that there was a “real buzz” about the place.

The arrival of five new players and the prospect of playing in a new division boosted everybody on the training ground.

“The atmosphere was very good, it was a good way to get our pre-season training programme started. Everybody is quite excited now,” said MG.

“The players worked very hard. There was plenty of ball work and fitness work.”

Several players have been doing extra sessions during the summer, and MG has promised all the players that this will be the “toughest pre-season they’ve ever had” as they build up to the big kick off in the EvoStik League Premier Division on August 15th.

Quakers are now looking ahead to the first pre season friendly of the season, the double header against Durham City on Saturday afternoon.

The second strings of both clubs will meet at 1.30, followed by the first teams at 3.30.

MG will take all his available players with him, except for Nathan Cartman, who is getting married on Saturday, and Rob Youhill, who is going to his wedding.
