NEW SIGNINGS: ✍🏻

Darlington FC Women are delighted to announce two new signings, Lana Williams and Abi Fawcett.

Both players sign for the club after recently turning 16 and take their first steps in the Women’s game.

Lana spent most of her youth football playing for Newton Aycliffe Youth F.C and Chilton F.C Boys. She currently plays for TIBS at youth level, who currently sit top of the U16 league table. She said; "Having turned 16, I wanted to get involved in playing women’s football. Playing for a local team was important to me and having lived in Darlington my whole life I wanted to play for my home town team.  I spent several weeks at training and loved the spirit and atmosphere in the group which gave me the ambition to work hard and sign for the club."

We also welcome Abi to the club who started playing football, age 6. Originally, the only girl playing for a boys team at Skelton, she captained the side and moved on to New Marske and Guisbrough. Abi joined Teesside RTC in 2020 and has been involved in the youth set up for the past 5 years. Abi currently captains the U16 Tibs side who are on course for the league title. Abi has expressed her joy after signing for the club, and said; "I wanted to join Darlington because since training with the team, the coaches have been amazing and I can see the support they give to each player. The rest of the squad have all been friendly and welcoming and they all very encouraging. They play at a good level and I feel like the team will help me progress in my footballing career."

Women’s team Manager Shaun Mackenzie said: "Both Lana and Abi have been training with us for a while now and after a few recent injuries in the squad, it was a no brainer to bring them in. We know both players have quality and have shown their talent and impressed whilst training with us over the last couple of months. They are both good technically, with the ball at their feet and have a great attitude and work ethic. They are also both versatile players who can play multiple positions so they will be good additions to the squad. We will be patient with them as we are with all young players and look forward to giving them the opportunity to play their first minutes in senior women's football."

Welcome to the club Lana and Abi
