Archie's late goal earns a draw
On a crisp Wednesday night under the lights at the Eastbourne Sports Complex, Darlington showed real character to earn a hard-fought point against Wolviston in the Wearside League First Division.
The visitors took the lead in the first half, punishing a rare lapse in concentration. From then on it was a battle, with both sides trading blows in a fiercely competitive contest.
Darlington kept pushing, and their patience was rewarded late on when Archie Small struck in the 82nd minute, firing home the equaliser and ensuring the Quakers came away with something to show for their efforts.
Defensively, Darlington were solid throughout, with Owen Smith putting in a superb shift at the back. Relentless in the challenge and calm under pressure, Smith’s performance earned him the Man of the Match award.
A tough midweek fixture, a late leveller, and a point earned the hard way.
