Under 23s lose at home to Ferryhill

Battling but losing display

Our Under 23s lost their first game of the season when they were beaten 3-0 at home by Ferryhill on Saturday.

The call up of three players to the first team squad  -- Matty Kirokiro, Liam Murray and Jack Mortimer -- weakened them, but they still put in a battling performance especially in the second half.

The first half was a scrappy affair and some defensive mistakes saw Quakers 2-0 down at half time.
The second half Darlington got on the front foot and pressed Ferryhill back and scored a goal that the referee disallowed, and then ten minutes later Brendon Makedenge was fouled inside the penalty box, the referee pointed to the spot then changed his mind to give a freekick on the edge of the box.
Ferryhill got their third from a penalty late on.
Manager John Walters said,"We were poor in our defending from the front to the back today, poor decision making at times and we didn’t test their keeper enough.
"In the second half  we pressed them and gave it a go but without success.
"Some strange refereeing decisions marred the game but Ferryhill deserved their win.
A special mention to Niall Armstrong at 16 coming on to make his debut."
