Under 23s return to action with victory

Back on the promotion trail

Our Under 23s returned to action after the Christmas break with a 5-2 home win over Washington on Saturday.

Goals from Matthiew Kirokiro, Jack Mortimer, Alfie Fawcett and Steven Dawson (2) gave them the points, although they had to work hard throughout.

They were 2-0 up after 15 minutes, and had lots of the ball but lacked sharpness and made the incorrect decisions in the final third of the field. They added another before half time for 3-0.

In the second half, they were well below their best and Washington managed to hit back, but Quakers scored a couple more to secure victory.

Manager Grant Cuthbertson said; "We completely dropped off our normal standards and lacked discipline in holding our shape and became very sloppy in our play. Even though we eventually ran out 5-2 winners, there is lots to work on before the next game."

The points mean that Quakers are now nine clear of Middlestone Moor, who have five games in hand.

Their next match is at Jarrow Reserves this Saturday, kick off 1.30
