Both newcomers score as Quakers win at Warrington

Quakers pick up three points

Warrington 2 Darlington 3

Attendance 942

McGowan 21 mins, 0-1, Main 34 mins 0-2, Williams 43 mins 1-2, Storey 58 mins 1-3,  Green 79 mins 2-3

Quakers’ play off hopes are still alive after a good win at Cantilever Park.

Will McGowan and Louis Storey, who were both signed just before the deadline on Thursday, were on target, with Cedric Main adding the other.

The result means that Quakers still have play off hopes, but are still seven points behind. King's Lynn made the task slightly more difficult by winning at Leamington in the last minute.

Warrington put a long throw in to the Darlington box which was partly cleared, and Quakers broke upfield with Will McGowan playing the ball into the box for Cedric Main to square for Caden Kelly, who was crowded out.

Then McGowan's pass was partly intercepted only for Ben Hedley to run in and hit a left foot shot that Atherton saved.

Quakers went close on 9 minutes. McGowan found Matty Cornish on the right, and he crossed into the six yard area where Main flicked the ball on, and it bounced off the top of the crossbar.

Warrington had to look lively on 18 minutes when Storey played a long ball out of defence for Main to chase, and a defender just got back to clear.

Warrington responded with a run down the right by Joe Rodwell-Grant which ended with a right foot shot wide of the left hand post.

Quakers took the lead after 21 minutes. Ben Hedley picked the ball up on the right, found McGowan inside, and he ran forward and hit a lovely left foot shot into the top right corner.

Warrington replied with a long throw from the right which was flicked on for Peter Clarke to fire over the top.

McGowan was involved again for Quakers on 31 minutes when he found Matty Cornish 35 yards out, and the midfielder put a right foot shot just wide.

It was 2-0 on 34 minutes. A good build up on the left involved four players, before Kelly played the ball inside for Main to sidestep a defender and score with a right foot shot, his tenth of the season.

It was nearly three when McGowan found Hazeem Bakre in the box, and the striker fired across the face of goal.

But Warrington unexpectedly pulled a goal back when a deeo cross came over from the left, and Lee Williams headed past Peter Jameson.

Jameson then made a great save low to his right as Rodwell-Grant dribbled into the box, and fired towards the bottom corner.

Quakers won a free kick for a foul on Bakre on 50 minutes about 30 yards out, and Kelly shaped as if he was going to cross to the far post, but instead went direct for goal and the ball went wide.

Warrington broke out and McDonald thought he was through, but Toby Lees put in a great saving tackle.

Quakers made a sub on 58 minutes, Tom Platt coming on for Cornish.

And it was 3-1 seconds later. Kelly’s corner from the left was chested down by Louis Storey, and he fired left footed into the bottom corner.

McGowan nearly got a fourth when he ran through the middle unchallenged again, and hit another left foot shot that the keeper parried.

Then Main sent Bakre through with just the keeper to beat, but he fired just wide

Quakers made their second and third subs on 72 minutes, when Kelly and Bakre were replaced by Andrew Nelson and Jarrett Rivers.

Rivers nearly created a goal for Hatfield when he pulled the ball back from the right, but Hatfield miscued.

Warrington sub Josh Amis nearly pulled one back when he picked the ball up in the box and fired into the side netting.

But Warrington pulled a goal back on 79 minutes when Devarn Green controlled a ball in the left side of the area, and beat Jameson with an effort over his head into the net

Quakers then nearly went 4-2 up when a corner came out to McGowan whose volley took a deflection and was well saved by Atherton.

Quakers made another sub when Nelson went off injured and was replaced by Stirland.

Main then cleverly sent McGowan away with just the keeper to beat, but the ball bobbled and he fired wide.

However, Warrington kept going, and Amis again fired narrowly wide.

Then they had a free kick in the fourth minute of stoppage time which O’Neill floated into the box but Amis volleyed wide
