Quakers took early lead but Worksop fought back

Worksop 1 Darlington 1

Main 3 mins 0-1, Burrow 81 mins 1-1

Darlington are now up to fifth in the table after drawing 1-1 at Worksop.

However, they were disappointed not to collect all three points after Cedric Main gave them an early lead, as they created some good chances.

Worksop levelled with nine minutes left to deny Quakers all three points, but having said that, the visitors nearly scored twice in stoppage time.

Pete Jameson was in early action, holding on to a left wing cross at the foot of his post.

But Quakers scored with their first attack of the game. Aidan Rutledge put a long throw in to the area, where the ball was helped on by Tom Platt for Cedric Main to turn home.

Quakers won a corner on 9 minutes which was swung in by Will McGowan, and keeper Lewis Forshaw failed to get a touch on the ball when he came for the ball, which went out for a goal kick.

Quakers gained their second corner on 11 minutes, but this time Worksop managed to head the ball away.

Worksop threatened on 17 minutes from a quickly taken free kick which Deegan Atherton put into the area from the right, but Toby Lees headed the ball away.

Quakers nearly got a second on 24 minutes when McGowan’s free kick from the right into the box fell for Rutledge whose attempt was blocked, and he set up Main, who also had a shot blocked.

The score was nearly 2-0 a minute later. A misdirected pass by a Worksop midfielder on the halfway line sent Main through one-on-one and his left foot shot came back off the bar with the keeper beaten.

Worksop responded with a low shot by Whitham, which Jameson comfortably saved.

Tweedy showed what he’s capable of on 29 minutes when he beat two defenders on the left, and fired across the face of goal, with nobody able to get a touch.

However, Worksop nearly levelled when O’Malley crossed for Burrow to head goalwards, but Jameson pushed the ball away.

And in Worksop’s next attack Burrow tried his luck with another header, but again the keeper denied him.

They had another chance when Whitham set up Vaughan Redford twelve yards out, but he fired over the top.

Quakers responded with a good run into the box by Main, who crossed to the far post towards Tweedy, but a defender just managed to hook the ball away.

However, Quakers almost hit back when McLaughlin found Maskell on the right, and his low cross was fired just wide by Howells.

And they almost won it when Howells got away down the right and crossed into the middle where late sub Josh Scott headed wide.
