Quakers match abandoned

Serious injury

Darlington 0 Boston United 2

Match abandoned because of player injury after 87 minutes.

The game against Boston was abandoned after 87 minutes because of a serious injury to Darlington defender Nicky Hunt. We will provide further details in due course.

Burrow 8 mins, 0-1 Preston 86 mins 0-2

Boston had the game’s first chance, when Connor Dimaio picked the ball up 40 yards out, ran forward and struck a left foot shot over the top.

Boston took the lead on 8 minutes following a quick interchange of passes on the right, and the ball came into the middle from Connor Dimaio for Jordan Burrow to head in.

But Quakers almost equalised straightaway with an effort by Luke Charman, which was well saved by Ross Fitzsimons.

Boston nearly got another with an inswinging corner from the left that whizzed across the Darlington goal and just missed the far post.

Saltmer then made a good save from a close range header by Burrow from a right wing corner  and Nicky Hunt made a good clearance after Andi Thanoj had got away down the right.

Quakers created a chance on the half hour when Sousa found Reid on the edge of the box, and he set up Charman who fired over the top.

Quakers missed a great chance when Charman helped a through ball on for Reid to latch on to, but Fitzsimons just managed to deflect the ball wide.

Quakers slowly got more into the game, and Boston had three players booked as they tried to disrupt the home side before half time.

Saltmer pulled off a good save from Dimaio’s left foot shot at the start of the second half.

Quakers were forced into a sub on 53 minutes when Charman went off with a foot injury, and was replaced by Will Hatfield.

And Hatfield nearly score with his first touch, a right foot shot from 30 yards that Fitzsimons fumbled around the post.

Saltmer made a good save at the other end on 65 minutes, from a left foot shot by Preston from the corner of the box that was heading into the top left corner.

Quakers made their second change on 71 minutes, Jarrett Rivers coming on for Dan Maguire.

Rivers was involved in the build up to a chance on 75 minutes, a right foot shot by Campbell from the edge of the box that Fitzsimons saved low down to his left.

Rivers created another chance for Campbell on 77 minutes, a left foot shot from the edge of the box that was deflected into the keeper’s hands.

Campbell was unlucky again a minute later when he pounced on a poor back pass, and his effort was just tipped over the bar by Fitzsimons.

Sousa then fired across the face of goal following a good run down the right.

But Quakers went 2-0 down on 87 minutes when Hunt collided with a Boston player 25 yards out and dropped out to the ground. The game continued, and Preston fired a deflected shot past Saltmer.

The match was then abandoned by the referee because of a serious injury.
