After dominating the first half, Quakers were beaten by two second half goals against Buxton.

They created several good chances, but were denied by the woodwork, keeper Joe Young or clearances off the line.

Quakers won a corner in front of the Tin Shed in the second minute, but the Buxton defence managed to get the ball away.

Alfie Myers-Smith then broke inside from the right, but his pass into the box for Jack Maskell was just too far.

Quakers nearly took the lead on 13 minutes. Jonah Lowes played a good reverse pass to Cedric Main, who moved inside and struck a low right foot shot that Joe Young pushed around the post, and from the corner that followed, Tom Platt couldn’t turn the ball in after the keeper had missed it.

They had another opportunity when Cedric Main and Elliot Forbes combined and set up Ben Hedley, who fired just over the top, then in Quakers’ next attack, Jack Maskell’s effort was deflected for a corner.

Quakers kept the pressure going, and when Will McGowan’s free kick was cleared to the edge of the box, Tom Tweedy volleyed over the bar.

McGowan found space on the right on 29 minutes, and after picking up a pass from Myers-Smith, he moved inside and fired just over the bar.

They had a better chance when McGowan moved forward and set up Lowes, whose effort was well saved by the keeper's outstretched leg.

Just on half time, Scott Barrow’s free kick was well saved by Young

Half time: Darlington 0 Buxton 0

Quakers made a sub at half time, Aidan Rutledge coming in for Maskell.

However, Buxton, with the wind at their backs in the second half, took the lead on 54 minutes with their first serious attack of the game when Luke Brennan played the ball into the area for Connor Kirby to beat Rory Watson.

Buxton went for a second, and Watson comfortably held Brennan’s low shot

Quakers had a chance to equalise when Barrow’s free kick into the area was partly cleared to Main, and his volley was cleared off the line

However, Buxton went 2-0 up on 67 minutes when Quakers defence failed to clear a deep free kick by Young, and Cian Coleman pounced on the loose ball and beat Watson.

After that, Buxton took control and Watson saved at the feet of Johny Johnston, but Tom Platt nearly pulled a goal back with a header from a corner, but Young saved well.

And right at the end, McGowan's curling shot came back off the crossbar, which summed up Quakers' night
