Girls' football progressing well at Darlington FC

Three teams to play next season

There will be three girls’ teams playing under the Darlington FC umbrella next season following a successful 2018-19 campaign.

Girls’ football has really taken off in the last few years, and is expected to become even more popular with the Women’s World Cup about to take place.

Head of Girls’ Football Development, Harry Bowes, said; “I am so pleased to see a massive rise in girls’ football and knowing Darlington Football club will have three girls teams all playing in high divisions excites us as a club. The Girls section would like to thank Paul Thomas for his on-going support to help us generate the girls teams.”

The under 13s won Division One of their league in 2017-18 and moved into the highest division in the north east, RFYL Premier Division and finished in 6th place winning over 70% of games this season. The girls also reached the Cup Final beating the league champions Boro Rangers in the semi final 3-2, they unfortunately were beaten by a very strong Nunthorpe team on cup final day. It was a great experience for the girls.

The girls’ efforts were noticed this year as they won Darlington sports award under 17 team award for 2019.

Darlington FC will have three successful teams going forward into the 2019/2020 season:

under 9

under 11

under 14

We’d like to congratulate all the girls, wish them the best of luck in the new season!
