Darlington director John Tempest has thanked fans for their great support at the opening home game against Curzon Ashton on Saturday.

A crowd of 1,488 turned out to watch Quakers’ first home league game of the season in the Vanarama National League North, and now JT is hoping that Darlo fans will turn out in force for the away game at Spennymoor on Tuesday night.

“Considering that we are in the middle of the holiday season, I was delighted with the attendance on Saturday,” he said. “It is an expensive time of year for many people, so we are grateful to everyone who came to the game.

“There are some very exciting matches in this league, and we now have two in particular coming up in our next three matches. We are at Spennymoor on Tuesday night, and then at home to Blyth on Wednesday 15th August, and they promise to be very competitive and entertaining.

“Tommy, Alan, his coaching staff and the players were all very disappointed with the result last Saturday, but they are very determined to put things right on Tuesday night on a ground where we have always seemed to do well.

“The fans can also play another important part in our season, because the players always respond to positive encouragement, especially in these high profile games.

“The Unknown Creative, whose owner, John Dunne is a long-serving fan of the club, has launched a social media campaign #whereYOUbelong in which we aim to reflect the values of Pride, Passion and Progress in our club. Off the field, we are working hard in many ways to uphold and enhance those values as well as trying to encourage those who have a connection or an affinity to the club to come along to matches.

“The facilities are steadily improving at Blackwell Meadows. We have doubled our seating capacity, which in turn enables us to offer families the opportunity to watch games in seated comfort – remember that Under 11s have free admission. There is also plenty of space for fans to stand and watch games.

“There will be highs and lows watching Darlington FC, but that’s the appeal of football. We have a good, solid base of support -- we would love more people to come along and become a part of it.”

The club has an excellent advance offer for fans – any adult booking his/her match ticket on line beforehand pays £1 less than the gate price of £14, which means that an adult with two children under the age of 11 pays just £13 in total.
