Quakers beaten by two goals in seven minutes

Penalty not awarded at 1-0

King's Lynn 2 Darlington 0

Henderson 51, 58

Quakers were beaten by two goals in the space of seven minutes on their first ever visit to the Walks.

If anything, Quakers were the more likely to score after missing some good opportunities in the first half and start of the second, but some slack defending allowed King's Lynn to pick up the points.

King’s Lynn put the Darlington defence under early pressure without creating any clear chances, although there was a scare when Chris Elliott miscontrolled a back pass, but fortunately the ball evaded the advancing Michael Gash.

KL nearly took the lead on 16 minutes when Michael Clunan floated a right wing corner over to the far post for Gash to head towards goal, but Elliott palmed the ball out.

Quakers had a chance though when Hatfield hit a dipping right foot shot from the edge of the box from a right wing corner that Street touched over the bar.

Quakers had another chance on 31 minutes when Campbell swung a corner into the box for Heaton to have a header cleared by Clunan.

Half time 0-0

There was another chance for Quakers at the start of the second half when Rivers made a great down the left and pulled the ball back for Campbell to hook over the bar.

But Quakers fell behind when they were caught by a through ball that Henderson picked up and slotted past Elliott.

Quakers thought they should have had a penalty though when Thompson found Campbell in the box, and the striker appeared to be brought down, but the ref awarded a free kick against the striker instead.

It was 2-0 on 58 minutes when Henderson chased a ball over the top, and slid the ball past the advancing Elliott.

Quakers’ response was to put on Donawa for Atkinson, and his first action was a right foot shot that went into the side netting.

Josh Heaton then nearly pulled a goal back with an audacious 50 yarder that went over Street’s head, but came back off the bar.

However, Gash nearly made it 3-0 at the other end, with a header from a right wing cross against the post, then Elliott pushed a piledriver from Carey over the bar.
