Run down on Motherwell
By Ray Simpson
Details of Saturday's SPL friendly opponents
Here's a run down of Motherwell, our first friendly opponents to Blackwell Meadows on Saturday afternoon, kick off 2pm. (admission £10 adults, £8 concessions and £5 children, free for Under 11s if accompanied)
Motherwell are finishing off their preparations for the start of their season, with the Betfred Cup coming up next Saturday. They play four group games in that competition before their league season starts on 3rd August (the same day as ours against Farsley)
Managed by former Luton and Bournemouth player Stephen Robinson, they finished eighth in the Scottish Premier League last season, well away from the relegation places.
During the summer, they have strengthened their squad with the signings of Jake Carroll, Casper Sloth, Christopher Long, Jermaine Hylton, Liam Polworth and Declan Gallagher. Unfortunately, former Darlington player Curtis Main left in the summer.
They come to Blackwell Meadows on the back of a friendly tour of Northern Ireland in which they played Crusaders and Linfield, and earlier in the week they played Gretna.
Their squad is:
1 Trevor Carson – former Hartlepool keeper
2 Richard Tait
3 Jake Carroll – defender signed in the summer from Cambridge United
