Campbell scores for Quakers, but lost at Farsley

Updates from Farsley v Quakers at the Citadel

Farsley Celtic  3 Darlington 1 final

Walton (10 mins, 1-0), Cartman (17 mins, 2-0), Spencer (37 mins, 3-0), Campbell (64 mins, 3-1)

A poor first half performance cost Quakers when they went down 3-1 at the Citadel.

Taking into account the pre-season friendlies, this was Quakers' worst performance so far, as they were punished for their mistakes in the first half.

The second half was much better, but Farsley defended in depth and mad themselves difficult to break down.

There were at least 500 Darlington fans in the ground and they all gave the team a loud cheer when they came on to the pitch.

Quakers had the first half chance, a long clearance by Chris Elliott was chased by Adam Campbell, and he couldn’t quite get the ball down inside the Farsley box.

Campbell had a good chance on 8 minutes. Rivers and Holmes combined on the edge of the box for Holmes to find Trotman, who hit a powerful right foot shot that Campbell turned into the keeper’s hands ten yards out.

But Farsley took the lead on 10 minutes. A poor ball was played out of defence straight to Tyler Walton, who controlled the ball and hit a right foot shot past Elliott into the net.

It was 2-0 on 17 minutes, when Hayhurst got round the back of the defence on the left hand side and set up Nathan Cartman, who bundled the ball home at the second attempt.

Frustrated Quakers struggled to get any real rhythm going, and they nearly went further behind when a deep free kick was picked up by Hayhurst in the Darlington box, and he set up Cartman, whose shot was blocked.

It was 3-0 on 35 minutes. A long throw by Adam Clayton bounced once in the Darlington penalty area and James Spencer, completely unmarked at the back post, tapped in.

Quakers nearly pulled one back just on half time. Holmes made a good run down the right, beat two men, and set up Thompson, who couldn’t get enough power behind his effort and the keeper saved,

Half time:

Farsley Celtic 3 Darlington 0

There was a good chance for Quakers on 56 minutes when Rivers found Campbell running forward, and he set up Holmes whose shot was deflected just wide of the post.

Rivers then cut in from the right, and had a left foot shot deflected wide.

Quakers got a goal back on 64 minutes when Campbell picked the ball up on the left, turned inside, and curled a right foot shot beyond the keeper into the net

Quakers pushed forward looking for another, and Thompson nearly got one when he turned quickly.

Sub Tyrone O’Neill then forced a good save out of Wynne with a header from a corner, then Thompson played the ball across the face of goal but Campbell couldn’t get a touch.
