Since when did Darlington wear black and white stripes? Since the chairman started interfering with the kit design, that’s when.
Broad black and white stripes may be a design more familiar to St James’ Park than Darlington, but it could have been a lot worse.
George Reynolds had originally revealed a red and white striped shirt, but a huge backlash from supporters, however, ensured that the red was exchanged for black as Darlington moved to the Reynolds Arena.
Supporters recall the shirt was made from thin and fragile material, and thought it was possibly the lowest quality imaginable, which was appropriate given the season fans had to endure. We went into administration for the first time that season. Thankfully, the kit was dumped after one year.
