Popular ex player and FITC officer passes away
The club is very sad to learn of the passing of former player and club official Kevin Stonehouse.
Kevin, who was 59, signed for us in the summer of 1987 after he was freed by Blackpool (he started his career at Shildon before moving on to Blackburn) and went on to score 17 goals in his first season, and seven in his second. In total, he made 87 appearances for us.
He moved to Bury when he was freed by Quakers at the end of the 1988-89 season.
When his playing career finished, he stayed in the game thanks to the help of the PFA, and was our Football in the Community Officer for several years. He was a popular figure around the local schools, and organised many Soccer Schools during the school holidays.
He was working for Newcastle United as an international scout until his death.
The club’s sincere condolences go to his family and friends at this sad time.
