Darlington assistant manager Brian Atkinson admitted that defensive mistakes are costing Quakers points – but still saw some positives in Saturday’s performance.

Quakers missed a chance to go top of the table because of Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at home to Hyde United, and Atkinson said; “We can’t keep conceding goals and giving ourselves a mountain to climb like we did on Saturday.

“We got back into the game at 2-2, and then a sucker punch in injury time cost us a point.

“We’re getting punished for making errors, and that is down to individuals. We can try and encourage the players, but one thing we will do, is stick together. The one good thing is, that we have a game on Monday night at Ilkeston and we have a chance to put things right.”

The biggest talking point at half time was the disallowed goal by Tom Portas. Even Hyde thought the goal was valid as they were lining up for the restart from the halfway line.

“I thought the goal was great play, but the assistant said that Nathan Cartman impeded the keeper when he was in an offside position. It was hard to swallow, but we have to move on.

“If you look at the majority of the game, we had a lot of possession and there was some good play at times.

“However, individual errors cost us goals and hurt us. We can’t keep giving people two or three goals start because of daft mistakes.”
