National North Round-up 02/01/2020
The latest from around the league
We dropped to tenth place in the league after a 3-1 defeat at Spennymoor. Victory for the Brewers saw them move up to fifth place.
League leaders King’s Lynn won impressively at Boston United. Adam Marriott and Jordan Richards put them in control at the break and Michael Gash sealed a 3-0 win with ten minutes to go.
York City remain four points behind the leaders in second after a 2-1 win at home to Bradford PA. Macaulay Longstaff put York ahead with Jordan Burrow doubling their lead. Park Avenue pulled a late goal back from Liam Hughes but it was not enough.
Chester are back up to third after smashing Southport who drop to seventh 4-0. Akwasi Asante scored a double along with goals from Simon Grand and Anthony Dudley.
Brackley were held to a 1-1 draw by struggling Kettering. The Poppies took a lead through Michael McGrath before James Armson earned Brackley a point.
Farsley are still sixth despite a 1-0 defeat at home to Guiseley. Chris Sang scored the only goal of the game in the 67th minute for Guiseley.
The North East pair Blyth Spartans and Gateshead played out a six goal thriller at Croft Park. Scott Barrow gave the Heed a first half lead that was doubled by Jordan Preston after the break. The real drama came in the final 15 minutes though. Callum Roberts scored two penalties in three minutes to bring Blyth level, before Greg Olley appeared to have won the game in stoppage time for Gateshead. However, Blyth would have the last say as Levi Amantchi scored with virtually the last kick to make it 3-3.
Altrincham are up to 12th after coming from behind to beat Curzon Ashton. Mike Calveley gave the Nash the lead, but two goals in three minutes from Jake Moult and Andy White turned it around to give Alty the 2-1 win.
Alfreton and Telford United held each other to a 1-1 draw. James McQuilkin put Telford ahead early on before Ben Tomlinson scored to earn a point for Alfreton.
Our next opponents Gloucester picked up their first win since October 2-1 at home to Leamington. Jack James and Marlon Jackson put Gloucester ahead meaning a second half goal for the Brakes from Jack Edwards was only a consolation.
The final game on New Year’s Day saw Hereford overcome Kidderminster 2-1. Victor Sodeinde put Hereford ahead before an own goal doubled their lead. An own goal at the other end in stoppage time gave Harriers hope, but Hereford held on for the points.
