National North Round-Up 02/04/2019

The latest action from our division

We fell to a 2-0 defeat at Stockport County on Saturday, a result which saw us slip to 18th in the table. Despite the defeat we remain nine points off the relegation zone with five games to left.

Chorley’s lead at the top of the table was cut to two points after they were held to a 0-0 draw at Chester. Stockport’s victory over ourselves meant with their game in hand they can now overtake Chorley.

Brackley Town remain third despite being held to a 0-0 at Southport.

Fourth place Bradford PA were also held to a draw at home to Alfreton. Reece Styche had given the visitors the lead with just quarter of an hour to go, but Gianluca Havern rescued a point for Bradford two minutes from time.

Another playoff hopefull who were unable to pick up maximum points were Spennymoor Town. They fell to a 2-0 home defeat to Hereford. Lance Smith and Thomas Owen-Evans scoring before the break. Spennymoor are now fifth, whilst Hereford have all but secured their place in the division for next year.

Altrincham won a vital game against eighth place Kidderminster 2-1. Alty were 2-0 ahead inside 20 minutes thanks to Andrew Jones and an own goal. Joe Ironside pulled one back for Harriers but defeat means despite only being one place off the top seven they are five points away from it.

Telford remain in the final playoff spot, but were held on Saturday by Blyth Spartans. Dominic Udoh put Telford ahead early on but Dan Maguire earned Spartans a point right at the end of the game.

Nuneaton produced a shock victory at third bottom FC United of Manchester to hold off relegation for another week.  Taylor Allen, Michael Townsend, Jordan Lussey and James Caton all scored for Nuneaton as they won 4-0 to damage the hosts own hopes of playing National North football next season. FC United are now six points from safety with 15 left to play for.

Ashton United are seven points off safety after their defeat at Leamington who moved above ourselves in the table. Reece Flanagan scored the only goal of the game on 71 minutes.

Guiseley grabbed a useful point at home to York to move six points ahead of danger zone. Patrick McLaughlin had put York ahead early on, but Kingsley James earned a 1-1 draw for the hosts.

In the final game of the week Boston United comfortable overcame Curzon Ashton 4-1. Jake Wright, Max Wright, Ben Davies and Thomas Clare scored the goals for the Pilgrims, with Lewis Reilly pulling one back for Curzon.
