National North Round-Up 25/03/2019

The latest action from our division

We picked up a crucial away victory at bottom of the table Nuneaton. Goals from Stephen Thompson and Jordan Nicholson moved us up to 17th and ten points ahead of the bottom three. Nuneaton are 17 points off safety with 21 still to play for.

Chorley extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points after a 3-0 win over Leamington. Marcus Carver scored twice along with a goal from Louis Almond in stoppage time.

Spennymoor missed the chance to close the gap on second placed Stockport after they were held at home by Alfreton Town. Glen Taylor put the Brewers ahead in the first half but Jordan Sinnott’s penalty gave the visitors a 1-1 draw.

Bradford Park Avenue are level on points with Spennymoor after they were also held to a draw at Southport. Jake Beesley’s double appeared to have Bradford on course to take home all the points. However, Southport produced an unlikely comeback thanks to Jordan McFarlane-Archer and Jason Gilchrist to make it 2-2.

Brackley took advantage of slip ups above them to close the gap to Spennymoor to a point after a 3-1 win over Kidderminster Harriers. James Armson put Brackley ahead after just four minutes, with Joe Ironside levelling for Harriers before the break. Lee Ndlovu and Shane Byrne both scored in the final twenty minutes to give Brackley all the points and keep Kidderminster outside of the top seven.

York City and Boston United both have outside hopes of a top seven finish, but neither were done any favour as they held each other to a 2-2 draw. Sean Newton and Macauley Langstaff put York ahead at the break, but Jay Rollins and Max Wright scored in the final half hour to earn the Pilgrims a point.

Second bottom Ashton United suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to Blyth. Kieran Green, Louis Laing and Dan Maguire gave Blyth the points with all the goals coming in the first half an hour.

FC United of Manchester also lost to dent their survival hopes. Kurt Willoughby had given them the lead at Curzon Ashton, before the hosts levelled through Sean Miller. Jonathan Hunt put the Nash ahead shortly after the break, with Miller sealing a 3-1 win ten minutes from time.

Guiseley are fourth bottom and only three points ahead of the relegation zone after a 1-0 defeat at Hereford who are now 12 points clear of the danger zone. Joshua Gowling scored the only goal of the game for Hereford 11 minutes from time.

In the FA Trophy semi final second legs both AFC Telford United and Stockport County exited the competition following home defeats.
