The skipper says that Quakers dug in really well
Darlington skipper Reece Styche thought that the team bounced back well on Monday against Ashton United in the 2-2 draw.
Styche, scorer of five goals this season was pleased with everyone’s reaction from the 3-0 home defeat by Altrincham.
“I thought we all dug in really well and got a vital point after Saturday’s performance,” he said.
“I thought we played well throughout the game. In the first half we passed the ball well, and pressed them high. Their lad put one in the top bin, and for the second goal I don’t think he meant it. We were two goals down before we knew it. I don’t think that justified our whole performance.
“It was important that we got the first vital goal. We knew what Ashton were like, that they’ve conceded a lot of goals from winning positions. We said that we just needed to score one to help us push on, and I think we deserved to win after Harvey got on the scoresheet. We’ve got to start putting some wins together now, starting at home to Alfreton this Saturday.”
One of the big talking points were the six penalty appeals in the game, five for Quakers and one for Ashton. Styche was bundled over for a successful appeal, Quakers’ fourth in the game at that point.
“I thought the referee got their penalty appeal right, I thought Jonny Burn timed his challenge perfectly. The coming together with Luke Trotman I thought was a penalty, and the last one definitely was. I was free for a pull back and their lad handballed it. It’s the inconsistency from referees, I don’t understand what they see, it’s just frustrating.”
