A strong start from the Darlo boys was inevitable against bottom of the league Sherburn.

The Darlington players passed the ball superbly against the opposition with key passes by Hugo Elmwood and Shane Ketley opening up the opposition’s defence many times, but not one player could hit the target causing players to become frustrated. An early injury to Tom Gilroy forced Darlington to an early change handing Harry Gill his debut and his change paid off as a cross from striker Jamie O’Brien landed perfectly on to the head of Harry Gill. 0-1.

The second half started a bit shaky as 15 minutes went by and the Sherburn lads equalised, but this goal spurred on the Darlo players to get the lead back and within ten minutes of conceding sub Kelton Johnson played a superb ball downfield which was latched onto by Jamie O’Brien who had two men to beat and did it in style to slot the ball pas the keeper. 1-2.

This goal boosted the confidence of the Darlington players and in minutes the third was also netted by Nathan Wilson with a cheeky chip from outside the box. 1-3

Quakers made three subs, and it wasn’t long until the subs slotted away four goals between them, as tom Gilroy for both his goals weaved through the Sherburn defenders as if they weren’t there whereas Luke Evans made his voice heard as he outmuscled the Sherburn defenders twice to put Darlington 7-1 up.

This is a team which started the season after a disappointing season, and after several vital inclusions has grown each week into a quality team who should challenge for the title. As manager it’s an honour to work with a great group of lads.
